The Department of Languages and Regional Studies provides language classes in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, Dari, Urdu, and Pashto. The language school enrolls around 200 students every three months. Languages Department interns play a critical role in the execution, promotion, and development of the department. Interns in the Languages Department should have experience working with people, a capacity for multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills. Department interns would also need to be strong in both verbal and written communication. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. General Administration

Languages interns will assist in the management of the department's phone and email correspondence and respond to departmental and Institute inquiries. The intern will also register new students, schedule tutoring sessions between students and teachers, prepare transcripts, and process refund and withdrawal requests.

2. Marketing and Promotions

It is the duty of the Languages intern to regularly update and edit departmental content on the Insitute's website in additional to drafting new Twitter and Facebook posts. The intern will also be tasked with researching and drafting proposals for promoting and expanding the department and preparing relevant statistics.

3. Limited Research Assistance

With the guidance of the Director of Languages and Regional Studies, the intern will research various political topics related to the Middle East, primarily with a focus on Egypt. The intern will also have the opportunity to edit research papers and op-eds for publication, and critique and edit speeches and presentations.

Technical skills:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word required.
  • Ability to work Monday through Thursday 9:30am to 5:00pm. (30hours/wk)
