Established in 2005, SQCC’s mission is to promote knowledge of Omani culture in America and strengthen understanding between the peoples of Oman and the US. To this end, SQCC offers outreach and cultural exchange programs, as well as educational resources on Oman and the Arabian Gulf. A successful SQCC intern should have sound research, writing, and editing skills. Strong interpersonal skills are highly desirable, as well as familiarity with the Arabian Gulf region.
1. Research and Writing
Interns will do extensive research and writing for a variety of SQCC educational materials and online teaching resource projects. In the past, interns have contributed extensively to the “The Indian Ocean in History” project and written articles for the MEI Bulletin.
2. Editing
Interns will edit a variety of SQCC materials. In the past, interns have edited the English subtitles for Oman’s first commercial feature film, “Al-Boom,” and a lecture on Omani-Portuguese relations in the 16th-17th centuries.
3. Develop Promotional Materials
Interns will research and develop SQCC’s promotional materials for MEI’s Annual Conference.
4. Assist with programming
Interns will offer logistical assistance in researching and implementing Oman-oriented programming. Interns also have enjoyed opportunities to attend events at the Omani ambassador’s residence and interact with Omanis from across the public and private sectors.
