Contact: Laurie Kassman, Communications Department 202-785-5336

The Middle East Institute is pleased to announce that The Middle East Journal is now available in the JSTOR archive, expanding online access to MEJ articles from 1947 through 2004. Users at participating institutions may search, browse and view online and print full-text PDF versions of articles from The Middle East Journal’s first volume through all but its three most recent volumes.

As part of MEI and JSTOR’s shared efforts to increase access to scholarly literature, The Middle East Journal will be available as part of JSTOR’s Arts & Sciences VI Collection, which will include a minimum of 120 titles when completed in 2010. The addition of the Journal will provide for a greater international depth to this prestigious archive. Researchers and scholars at non-participating JSTOR institutions can purchase individual articles from The Middle East Journal for $9.00 per article.

JSTOR is a subscription-based online archive of scholarly journals used by a wide range of organizations including thousands of US and international universities. The addition of The Middle East Journal to JSTOR’s database ensures an expanded global distribution of the Journal. This new partnership will guarantee access to the important historical literature in the field of Middle Eastern studies to all those who need it.

Published quarterly since 1947, The Middle East Journal is the oldest peer-reviewed scholarly journal of its kind, blending source material with crucial policy analysis. It provides original and objective research and insight on the area from Morocco to Pakistan and including Central Asia. The Journal provides reliable background information for an understanding and appreciation of the region's political and economic development, cultural heritage, and ethnic and religious diversity. It also features some of the most respected, comprehensive and up-to-date book reviews in the field of Middle Eastern Studies.

Since 1946, the Middle East Institute has been dedicated to increasing Americans’ knowledge and understanding of the region. MEI offers program activities, media outreach, language courses, scholars, a library and an academic journal to help achieve its goals.
