- Has previously held teaching positions in government and politics at Richmond College in Surrey, UK, the University of Kansas and Bowdoin College
- Has published numerous articles in a variety of journals and has written two books: "China’s Changing Relations with the Middle East" (1991) and "Revolutionary Horizons: Regional Foreign Policy in post- Khomeini Iran"(1994)
